build the liberatus writing community.

Liberatus is a community journal about wholeness in politics, because all of us are tired of dysfunction. Citizens who join us are advocates for how the peace of Christ can remake politics from the ground up.

If you have experience working in American politics and are an advocate for the Liberatus Values of Freedom and Philosophy of Freedom in Political Engagement, we'd love to hear from you! You can join us to build the Liberatus writing community by filling out the application below. If you haven't met us already, we'll reach out to set up an interview. Our goal is to empower a community with experiences in American politics to realize healing through creative writing. Here's what we offer:

Community Building

Throughout the year we connect as a community. From coffees on Capitol Hill to hikes at Great Falls to Google Hangouts, we're building a nonpartisan community of Jesus followers. Together we hope to create a respite from the chaos of political culture, to pursue unity in a culture bent on division. Building community is our first priority; each journal series is a reflection of the deep conversations and dialogue happening in it. Sign up to be on the invite list for every community building event.

contemplative spirituality

Tired of the false divides in American politics? Imagining how the values of the Kingdom can transform us from the inside out offers us a path to healing. To discover the life of Jesus more fully and take a deeper faith journey, we offer our writers recommendations and access to books and other resources tailored to the objective of each journal series. Past resources have included The Wounded Healer by Henri Nouwen, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, and Nations Journal

creative outlet

Our goal, and the heartbeat of the organization, is to empower a community with experiences in American politics to realize healing through creative writing. When you join us, we'll send you detailed writing guidelines and questions to inspire creative writing. We’re currently reinventing the organization to create an annual print volume in place of digital publishing.

I came to Washington with high ideals and big dreams, but the reality of Capitol Hill culture came close to making me give up. However, through Liberatus I have had the opportunity to view my work through a new lens. I no longer see the workday devoid of meaning, but instead, I see it as an opportunity to speak truth and beauty into our broken system. Ideas are powerful, and I believe that God is working through Liberatus to change Capitol Hill.
